Code of Conduct

The Improv Cooperative is a place to do improvisational comedy in a fun, supportive and egalitarian atmosphere, owned by everyone who uses it. This document describes what you can expect from The Improv Cooperative's coordinators, and what we expect from our participants, workshop/jam facilitators and performers at our events. When participating in Improv Cooperative events, you are required to keep to the Code of Conduct.

What you can expect from us

  • We will ensure every event is led by experienced improvisers/facilitators who will treat you with respect and consideration.
  • We will not discriminate against anyone or any group of people. This includes but is not limited to any race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or income level.
  • We will respect boundaries that are communicated to us.
  • We will not tolerate any inappropriate behaviour or discrimination towards anyone at our events, including but not limited to: racism, sexual harassment, ableism, homophobia, etc.
  • All complaints made to us will be treated seriously and in accordance with our Complaints Procedure, which can be accessed by clicking here.
  • We will aim to set the price of our events at a level that is the least cost prohibitive to those on lower incomes.
  • We will use profits made from our events to further the aims of the Cooperative e.g. booking venues, paying workshop/jam facilitators, or promotion.
  • We will communicate with participants, performers and facilitators as quickly as possible if there are any changes to our events.
  • We will inform you if we are taking images or video at our events, what we will use these for and will give you the opportunity to consent to being in these.
  • We will not apply pressure for participants to take part in any activity that makes them uncomfortable, be that during jams, workshops, or at post-event socials.
  • Where tickets for an event are sold, we will agree a percentage of sales that will be shared with performers and co-ordinators. This will be agreed before the event and you can expect to be paid shortly afterwards. We will provide full financial transparency for any performer/workshop facilitator who requires it.

What we expect from our participants

  • We expect you to treat your fellow participants, workshop/jam facilitators and Cooperative coordinators with respect.
  • We expect you to not discriminate against anyone or any group of people. This includes but is not limited to any race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or income level.
  • We expect you to communicate any access needs or boundaries that are outwith the Code of Conduct to either a facilitator, a coordinator and/or your fellow participants if you feel comfortable.
  • We expect you to respect any reasonable boundaries communicated with you by fellow participants, performers, workshop/jam facilitators and co-ordinators.
  • We expect that if you can no longer attend one of our events you have booked that you tell us as soon as possible to allow us to give that space to someone else.

What we expect from our workshop/jam facilitators and performers

  • We expect that you will treat participants, fellow performers, fellow facilitators and coordinators with respect.
  • We expect you to not discriminate against anyone or any group of people. This includes but is not limited to any race, disability, age, sexual orientation, gender identity or income level.
  • We expect that you respect any boundaries communicated with you by participants, performers, workshop/jam facilitators and co-ordinators.
  • We expect you to prepare for any events that require it and to communicate with the coordinators in a timely manner e.g. attending rehearsals or providing details of workshops.
  • When tickets for an event are sold, we expect you to provide a legal and up-to-date method of payment in a timely manner.
